Pharmacologic Management of Diabetes in Acute and Critical Care Part 1
During acute illness nurses are challenged to manage the nearly one third of hospitalized patients who have known diabetes and estimated 7.8 million people with undiagnosed diabetes. This session brings clarity to the management of diabetes in the hospital, including types and dosing of insulin, consideration with an insulin pump and selection of oral agents. Through engaging content and case examples, you enhance your clinical decision-making and increase your confidence.
Objectives
Differentiate differences between Diabetes Type 1 and Diabetes Type 2 that alters the approach to treatment in the hospitalized patient.
Discuss clinical decision-making for managing hospitalized patients with diabetes mellitus who are eating, on tube feedings, or NPO.
