About the Event

Pharmacology of Heart Failure
Approximately 6.8 million Americans have heart failure with nearly 1 million new cases identified annually. Heart failure is the primary reason for hospital admission in older adults. In these chronically critically ill patients, pharmacology decision-making is complex and challenging. You will learn initiation, up-titration, monitoring, and contraindications for evidence-based medications for both HFrEF and HFpEF. This session integrates the newest guidelines and expert consensus recommendations from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. APRNs increase their clinical decision-making expertise using complex and challenging case studies.
Objectives
Review safe prescribing and monitoring for medications used in heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction.
Discuss strategies for diuretic use to achieve and maintain euvolemia.
